Chocolate is My Hero

There he is…staring up at me, tempting me, silently screaming “you know you want me”.  He is so good but yet so bad.  He is sinful.  He is chocolate. The word chocolate comes from the Aztecs of Mexico and means bitter water but to me the words means sinful pleasure.  It can reduce my daily stress in 2.5 seconds flat simply by placing a piece on my watering tongue.  I can feel the creamy concoction melt over my tongue exploding its sweetness into my entire mouth forcing my eyes to roll back in my head as its greatness rushes over me.  I almost hate to swallow but I know that I have another piece still waiting for me. I am apparently am not the only one who feels so strongly about this sweet pleasure.  Chocolate now comes in a variety of flavors:  Milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate, sweet or unsweet.  All of them so tempting and delectable. I’m not quiet sure when my love of chocolate began but I think it was right after the birth of my first child.  I was 21 years old and a new mom faced with many issues like trying to figure out if I should use Pampers or Huggies.  Life had certainly changed for me in a hurry and it was beginning to become very stressful.  One particular day after being spit up on for eight hours and after having changed about a million dirty diapers, I was able to sit down and relax before my bundle of “joy” awoke from her nap.   I sat down with a book and a Hershey candy bar and as I began to read, I popped a piece of the bar in my mouth.  Right then I began to feel the greatest thing ever.  The sweetness combined with the creamy chocolate sensation exploded in my mouth.  I threw the book down and devoured the entire candy bar in two bites.  My need was still unfulfilled so I began searching the kitchen for more like a drug addict looking for a fix.  I began rummaging thru cabinets and drawers ripping open boxes and containers trying to find more of this delectable item.  I was like a crazed woman, a rapid dog, a killer on the prowl.  I was unstoppable.  Alas, I never found any chocolate and I was extremely disappointed the rest of the day.  Rest assured I went to the store the next day and bough enough chocolate to have a month long sugar high. Chocolate is now one of the most popular flavors in the world and is even given as gifts.  Easter, Christmas Valentines, we all love to receive some form of the candy.  Studies have even shown that chocolate will lower blood pressure and reduce the formation of free radicals.  It has also shown twenty more pounds on my waistline.  Therefore my addiction does come with a price but it’s a price that I am so happy to pay for those few moments in my day when I can sit back, relax, close my eyes and feel my body melt away the stress just as the chocolate is melting in my mouth.  Chocolate is my hero.
